To celebrate U.S. Recycling Day, the leader of the Austin Recycling and Recycling Specialized Zero Waste Zone will hold a plastic film collection event throughout Austin on Monday.

Plastic film-including food bags, cling film, used zipper bags or pillow plastic packaging-is a flexible disposable plastic that residents’ blue recycling trucks will not accept. When placed in a blue trolley, this plastic will become entangled in the gears of the machine, stopping the operation and posing a safety hazard to employees who must manually remove these items from the gears, thereby posing a threat to recycling facilities. The plastic film placed in the brown garbage truck goes directly to the landfill, where it does not decompose.

Austinites can also dispose of their plastic film by arranging recycling at the Recycling and Recycling Center at 2514 Commercial Center Avenue. Many local grocery stores and retail stores also provide plastic film recycling services.

Keep Austin Beautiful announced that it will host a "Love Where You Live" event from 9 am to 11 am on Saturday.

Volunteers were invited to clean up their favorite Austin area, whether it was a local community park or Lady Bird Lake. Picking up trash, weeding on the garden bed, or raking leaves are all options.

Those who need supplies can register a cleanup kit on bit.ly/3n9Hx68.

The Austin Public Library will hold an exhibition "Wake up in the Dark" at the Central Library at 710 W. César Chávez St. on December 2.

The exhibition features large-scale paintings and installations by the artist Hollis Hammond, accompanied by the words of the poet Sasha West. Combining sound with sculptural installations, text and images, both artists demonstrated their personal advantages on a terrifying cliff of the future.

The City of Lockhart will host the first open day of the downtown revitalization project at the First Lockhart Baptist Church-Connection Center, 200 S. Blanco St, from 7 to 9 pm on Monday.

The event will start at 7pm with a speech by the city’s consulting engineers and landscape architects, and then the public can walk around and check the conceptual design displays set up throughout the site. This method gives the community an opportunity to discuss the project with project personnel and city staff.

The downtown project involves the proposed upgrade of utilities, drainage systems, streetscapes, parking lots, hardscapes, pedestrian passages, and landscapes in nine blocks surrounding the Caldwell County Courthouse. The project is in the design stage.
